Snips, Snails, & Puppy Dog Tails…Sweet Davis William- Abington, PA Newborn Photographer

There are few things more precious, in my opinion, then the birth of a new baby; a little life that was crafted and created in God’s image for his delight and glory.  On March 5th, our family was graciously blessed with such a gift when Davis William was born. I’ll also warn you now that this post is a little more personal than usual. Near the end of my pregnancy in July, we got the news that my brother Clinton & his wife Laura were expecting as well.  How fast time flies. We were even more excited to learn that Laura was having a boy; the perfect playmate for Levi. What joy to share the ups and downs of parenthood together.

Now to the personal part;

Clinton & Laura, you are truly godly parents. I’m so blessed to have you as siblings, to be encouraged and challenged. It brings me such joy to watch you with Davis, how you care for him and love him. May  you truly grasp what God’s grace is through your son…I’m sure at some point you’ll definitely need it. He is a gift to be treasured.

And sweet Davis, your aunt loves you dearly. I’m so excited to see the little boy and man you become. I pray that you will grow big and strong in stature, that you will love the Lord with all your heart, soul, and mind, and… that you would be kind to your cousin Levi. Know how loved and special you are.

“But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. ” – Psalm 3:3

Beautiful Momma

Davis and his Great Grandfather

So Snuggly.

Davis could you share some hair with Levi?

I think he’s had enough.

And the cousins to close.

The Barnes Family

INTIMIDATED!!! That is how I felt when the fabulously talented and creative Rae Barnes of Rae Barnes Photography emailed me about doing a shoot swap about a month ago. Any of you that know Rae understand that my feelings of anxiety and inadequacy were unfounded due to the fact that she is totally humble & encouraging, but here was the very artist who inspired me to follow my joy of photographing people asking me to capture HER FAMILY. In my mind I likened it to being asked to sing the national anthem for the president (yes I know I’m dramatic). “Are you sure you want me, Rae?” is what I thought. Aren’t there about 500 other photographers out there that could do a better job? I’m even nervous to publish this post.

On top of that, Rae is more then a wonderful photographer, she is a friend. I’ve known Chris, Rae’s husband (and talented photographer I might add), since he was my Young Life leader in high school, but didn’t actually meet Rae until they moved back to the area a couple of years ago now. Of course I thought I knew Rae from stalking her blog and admiring her awesomeness, but was secretly even more excited to finally meet her in person. Rae was still working full time and posted on her facebook about the need for a nanny, and by God’s providence I gained the privilege of watching their sweet little Claire for about a year, until just before Ellen was born and I had Levi. Don’t get me wrong, I love being a mother, but my days were so full of fun then- going to the park, painting little piggy toes (you can’t do that with boys), reading books, painting/coloring, and sometimes even baking.

Two weeks ago, I met up with Chris, Rae, and the girls for their shoot. We were contained to a small space inside so it was a little bit of a challenge, but  I hope you catch a glimpse of how much love these four have for each other.  Barnes Family- you have been a blessing and encouragement to me in so many ways and I so much hope you enjoy these. Your girls are a precious gift to so many. I also have to note that Levi can’t take his eyes off Ellen every time he sees her picture. I’m pretty sure he’s mesmerized by her, understandably so.

Just can’t get enough of this sweet girl.

I can just hear her laughter. I love these because Claire can be so serious at times- Daddy sure knows how to bring out the smiles.

Isn’t it obvious why Levi is so enthralled with this beautiful babe?

I had to post this last image- I know it isn’t the clearest (kicking myself now), but how fun would it be if it did come out~

My Project 52:2- Little Boys Are…A Precious Responsibility

Little boys are a responsibility. A precious responsibility that is. I was torn this week as I contemplated the concept of responsibility, which was a suggested topic for week 2 over at Paint the Moon. Responsibility can be defined a few different ways- the duties and burdens or the position of responsibility.  I chose to play a little on both. As a mom I have way more obligations and duties then ever before, but I am also in a position to mold and shape the person that Levi becomes. Or at least instill in him values in hopes that he will choose to live with integrity- to become responsible for his choices and actions, and above all to love the Lord with all of his heart, soul, and mind. Levi, you are a precious responsibility  and a joyful responsibility. One I hope to fulfill to the best of my ability.

Challenges and My Project 52: Little Boys Are…

With New Year’s just past and all this talk about resolution this and resolution that, I decided I was not going to resolve anything, but rather challenge myself. I wanted to find something that would stretch me creatively, but not require tons of time. Something that I could enjoy, and be proud of. And so came the conclusion that I would take part in a Project 52.

It has become popular for photographers and bloggers to participate in a 52 week project that requires input once a week for the year. Once I settled on the idea, I set out to find a theme and accountability. I owe all of my inspirations to  Shawna and her awesomeness last year with her Project 52 on Motherhood. You should go to her blog and fall in love with all of her creative genius just as I have. Trust me you will be addicted to her inspiration and awed by her truthfulness and genuineness.

If you know me then you also realize I am indecisive. Therefore it took me all of 2 weeks and 3 different takes on theme before I made the final decision. And so I settled on “Little boys are…” In light of my recent name change to “Mom” I figured I wouldn’t be at a loss for photos or words on the subject, but hope that one day Levi will be able to look at this project inspired by him and know how special he is.

So here I find myself learning and loving my little boy. And I pray, I pray that he will come to know this one day.
